HORROR VACUI

In 2018, Siri Karlsson composed the work Horror Vacui (the fear of emptiness), a 20 minute long commissioned work by SR P2 for the last edition of Art's Birthday Party on the big stage of Södra Teatern, Stockholm. The duo were inspired by the cartographers of the 15th and 16th centuries and how they filled and decorated the world's undiscovered places with images from the imagination.

Now the work has developed into a full-length album. Horror Vacui is released on November 8th on vinyl and streaming. Siri Karlsson delves into electronic soundscapes with her odd set of synths, key harp, saxophone and voices. Horror Vacui presents a dense, suggestive and intense and sound landscape. The artist and musician Per Byström has illustrated a world map of Horror Vacui and interpreted Siri Karlsson's musical landscape in the picture.

“For us, Horror Vacui is as much a work of art as an album - a haven for experiments where we explore emotions, textures, sounds and sounds. The music requires attention and a good sound system, ” Maria & Cecilia/Siri Karlsson

“It was challenging to write 20 minutes of continuous music. We are used to working in song format. But when we found the framework - a world of our own and to describe the map's places musically, creativity unleashed. We descended among the lava snakes of the underground, up in whirlwinds, from cavernous waters to new continents and mythical parties. Per Byström, who illustrated our map, has really captured our environments and together we have created a world of our own. ”
